Fraudsters are after your money. They pose as your financial institution to trick you into handing over personal information. Once they have it, they can lock you out and steal your money.
How it Happens
It often starts with a call from a phone number that appears to be from GE Credit Union. They might say they are calling from the Fraud Department and may make you feel like your response is urgent. They’ll ask for personal information – like your login credentials or a security code – so they can “verify your identity” or “help stop a suspected fraudulent transaction.”
But beware! GE Credit Union staff will NEVER contact you via phone, email, or text to ask for:
-
Your full debit or credit card number
-
Your full social security number
-
PINs
-
Online or mobile banking log-in credentials
-
Two-factor authentication codes
How to Stay Safe
-
Ignore unexpected texts, emails, and calls asking for personal or account details.
-
Don’t click on links or call numbers from suspicious messages. When in doubt, contact the credit union directly.
-
If you receive a phone call requesting any of the personal information listed above, hang up and call the Credit Union at 800.992.8472 to report it immediately.
-
Review your account information frequently and notify us of any suspicious or unauthorized activity.
Remember:
Phone numbers and email addresses can be “spoofed” by bad actors to appear to be from GE Credit Union when in fact they are not. If you receive any requests for sensitive information, call your local branch or 800.992.8472 directly.
